Institute of Structural Biology (IBS) is represented in the project by the Membrane Transporters Group, which consists of two teams led by Eva Pebay-Peyroula and Valentin Gordeliy. This group studies membrane proteins, which are among the most important target proteins in pharmaceutical research, and include mitochondrial carriers, transporters, gap junctions and receptors, including GPCRs. This group is also at the forefront of membrane protein crystallisation technology, a very complex but important field. The group achieved the genesis of extremely large and well-ordered (world-record setting resolution) crystals of transmembrane proteins, which would lead to a major break-through in the understanding of the mechanism of these proteins. Participation of this group will provide cross-validation of the methods and tools developed throughout the project.
